Questions & Answers
- What is Scholars of Global Distinction?
The Scholar of Global Distinction program is an initiative of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in cooperation with NC Community Colleges, including Beaufort County Community College. Students who complete the program will receive a certificate from UNC-Chapel Hill and a medallion that may be worn at graduation. All BCCC students, including Early College High School students, are eligible to participate in the program.
- What are the program requirements?
- Complete at least 15 credit hours of courses from this list: globally-intensive coursework.
- Participate in eight international activities and dialogues. UNC World View offers several opportunities during the academic year that would allow students to complete this requirement, and many of those offerings are web-based, so no travel is necessary.
- Complete 30-hours in study abroad or a domestic intercultural experience. BCCC already has a study abroad program in place with international travel that would meet this requirement. Additionally, UNC World View offers domestic opportunities during the academic year for students who cannot travel internationally.
- Complete a capstone presentation related to the global learning experiences. The capstone will be a 10 to 15 minute presentation on the student’s experience as a Scholar of Global Distinction.
